    Public Notice - Copley Township:

    Wright Road Bridge Closure


    Copley Township, OH – Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker, PE, PS would like to alert residents and motorists of the immediate closure of the Wright Road Bridge over Pigeon Creek, located between Jacoby Road and Collier Road, in Copley Township. County inspectors have been evaluating the load limited bridge often to measure deterioration ahead of the planned bridge replacement project to take place in 2020. Rapid deterioration due to repeated use of the bridge by large trucks have necessitated the complete closure of the bridge until it can be replaced. The County would like to thank Bertolini Trucking Company for their cooperation in routing their large trucks around the bridge and to remind other trucking companies to please abide by load limits on bridges and highways.

    The County has received grant funding from the County Engineer’s Association Local Bridge Program for the bridge replacement that was originally slated for 2022. Due to the deterioration of the bridge, the County asked for the funding to be moved up to 2020 and that request was approved. Design plans are complete, and the right-of-way is cleared for the project. Currently the project plans are at the Ohio Department of Transportation awaiting approval to move ahead with bidding the project. The County has asked ODOT to expedite the approval. The anticipated construction start date is April/May of 2020.

    The detour route will involve Collier Road, State Route 162, and Jacoby Road.

    Public Notice - Cuyahoga Falls:

    Riverview Road Bridge Closure

    Cuyahoga Falls, OH– Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker, PE, PS would like to alert residents and motorists of a 125-day closure of the Riverview Road Bridge over Furnace Run beginning Monday, February 10th. The reopen date is June 15, 2020. The bridge is located just north of the intersection with Bolanz Road in the city of Cuyahoga Falls.

    The closure is for a bridge reconstruction project. J.D. Williamson Construction Co. located in Tallmadge is the contractor for the $1.2 million project, which includes replacing the bridge deck, beams, and portions of the piers and abutments. Construction is 100% funded with state and federal grants.

    The detour route will be posted. The detour route involves Bolanz Road, Akron-Peninsula Road, and State Route 303. Access to Szalay’s Farm & Market will be maintained at all times via the Bolanz Road driveways. All work is subject to inclement weather.

    Public Notice - Akron:

    Summit County Engineer’s Office temporarily suspending public access to administration building and outposts

    Akron, OH – In accordance with recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health and Governor Mike DeWine regarding the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Summit County Engineer’s Office is limiting the person-to-person interactions at the main administration building located at 538 East South Street in Akron and the public services administration office located at 601 East Crosier Street in Akron, and the Boston Mills Station located at 1928 Boston Mills Road in Boston Township.

    The County Engineer is asking all citizens, contractors, and developers to conduct their business with the County Engineer’s Office through phone (330-643-2860), fax (330-762-7829), and email (general information email:

    A drop off area will be established in the lobby of the main administration building at 538 East South Street for any consultants, contractors or developers needing to hand deliver plans and permits to the office.

    Road maintenance crews and construction and bridge inspectors will continue to operate as normal, keeping County roads and bridges safe for motorists.

    Public Notice - Bath Township:

    Cleveland-Massillon Road Closure

    Bath Township, OH – Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker, PE, PS would like to alert residents and motorists of a 75-day closure of Cleveland-Massillon Road from Wye Road to Ghent Road beginning Wednesday, May 13th. The road will be closed for an intersection improvement project. Ghent Road will remain open. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

    The detour route is from Cleveland-Massillon Road south to State Route 18, west to I-77, then north on I-77 to Ghent Road. From Ghent Road, go south on I-77 to State Route 18, then east on State Route 18 to Cleveland-Massillon Road.

    This project involves realigning the intersection from a "Y" shaped intersection to the more traditional "T" shaped intersection. The project will also include adding a continuous right turn lane from Cleveland Massillon Road to Ghent Road to reduce traffic congestion during rush hour.
