Public Notice: Wheatley Rd over Riding Run

PID 122580 RFT-174-0250

Dec 29, 2025 - Summit County, OH

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), in partnership with the Summit County Engineer, proposes the repair of the Wheatley Road Bridge over Riding Run in Summit County, Ohio. The project will involve the replacement of the existing single span concrete slab using the existing abutments. Approximately 280 feet of roadway will be reconstructed to perform this work.

Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring/Summer of 2028 with a roadway closure duration of 180 days. Should funding be available one year sooner, construction would begin in Spring/Summer of 2027. Special Use Permits from Cuyahoga National Park for area of 0.1803 acres and Special Use Permit for Summit Metro Park for area of 0.0365 acres will be required for project. The special use permits will be for roadside construction access with no active recreational resources or park features being affected.  No permanent right of way is required. The road will be closed during construction and traffic will be detoured along local roads, including Revere Road, Ira Road, Riverview Road, and Everett Road.

Two streams were identified within the project area, both of which will be impacted by the proposed project. The project will permanently impact 171 feet of an ephemeral stream, temporarily impact 70 feet of a perennial stream, and permanently impact 100 feet of a perennial stream. Stream impacts are authorized under Nationwide Permit 3. No wetlands or other water resources will be impacted by the proposed project. Approximately 0.09 acre of trees will be cleared for the proposed project, and approximately 0.43 acres of developed land will be impacted by the project.

The project is necessary to rehabilitate the bridge and ensure that it may continue to be used safely.
