-
Do not attempt to drive through standing water.
-
Test your sump pump to make sure it works before a storm hits.
-
Clear storm drains and grates of debris. This could prevent street flood during a storm.
-
Clean sediment, debris and rocks from driveways, roadway culverts, and swales. Clogged culverts can cause flooding on driveways and roads.
-
Clear leaves from roof gutters and downspouts.
-
Do not dump trash, grass clippings, wood, rocks or other debris into streams or drainage ditches. This will block the flow of water.
-
Do not disturb natural vegetation on steep slopes and streams. Plants slow stormwater runoff, filter pollutants, and stabilize the earth so it won’t erode.
-
Keep in mind that by design it is normal for some parking lots, streets and streams to fill with water.
