10th Annual Miniature Bridge Building Competition (MBBC)

The 10th Annual Summit County Engineer Miniature Bridge Building Competition is scheduled to be held on January 29, 2010, at the University of Akron. This competition requires the application of math, science, physics and other academic skills to a basic component of civil engineering – bridge design and building. Monetary prizes will be awarded to winning teams. A challenge cup is also presented to the winning team's high school for display until challenged the following year. A SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY is offered to all competition participants who choose a career in civil engineering.

We also have a MENTORING PROGRAM that offers a variety of programs, presentations and on-the-job hands-on experiences in the profession of civil engineering for teachers and students. The civil engineering profession incorporates technological advances and enticing incentives that many students find interesting and attractive. These valuable learning experiences provide additional resources for teachers in preparing career-oriented curriculum with real-world training opportunities. It is our intent to give students and educators alike an insight into the many facets of a career in civil engineering.

A DVD of a MINIATURE BRIDGE BUILDING TEACHING and TESTING DEMONSTRATION done in a high school setting is available upon request to preview the academic and vocational benefits this program can provide to enhance the learning experience of students. The dvd will enable teachers and students to experience first hand the scope and extent of applied academics and class participation provided through the MBBC Program. The dvd also contains information about the MBBC event and a career in civil engineering.
